 Match Report

A frustrating match in which the Accies seemed to control much of the game but failed to break down a very-well organised opposition defence.

Joel played with a great deal of energy and determination from the off, meaning that he and Andy controlled the midfield for much of the game. Matt Needham took on the captain's armband and played very well. Mark Granger in the other full-back slot was also having a decent game but, somehow, the Accies defence allowed a couple of attacks to break through and we were 2-0 down after 35 minutes - despite notable determined efforts to clear the danger on each occasion from both Paul and Matty. Gibbo rallied the troops from the back but up front the Accies attacks couldn't force a break through. One or two half chances came from a couple of decent Gibbo set-pieces.

The game was marred just before half-time by a nasty injury to Mark Granger. He fell under an innocuous challenge and must have taken all of his weight on his finger, which dislocated. The rest of the day in the LRI showed that he had also broken a bone in his hand. So, as well as losing a game that we ought to have been good enough to win, we have also lost a good player for at least one month. Division 1 looks like it will be tight so we need to be at full strength as often as possible!
